She then asked us to fold the shirt into interesting flat shapes. Here i have added in what i came up with.
She asked us to pick one of the shapes and then trace it onto paper ande then cut it out. This became our basis for creating shapes on the mannequin. We then started pinning the paper onto the model to create shapes that werent neccessarily like anything that could be worn but but that could be the starting point for something interesting and/or wearable. Here is what i came up with:
Sue also asked us to pin the shapes onto the wall, add to it and then move it back to the mannequin but just sort of drop it on to the model to see what this created. However i found this very difficult and just couldnt picture anything in my head, so i didnt get anything out of this and quickly went back to the model. I was quite dissapointed in myself that i couldnt work like this but i do believe it is a very unique way of working and may only work for certain people.
I then came up with a shape that i really liked:
I thought this shoulder piece was a good starting point for something more so i started adding bits to it. I crumpled the paper i was adding to give it more texture and to match the shoulder piece, which was crumpled from how much work i had done to it and how much i had moved it around. After adding more and more pieces this is what i came up with:
I thought this could look really nice added onto a bodycon dress, to make it stand out more and look more unique.
On our third day we spent it mainly designing and getting our 3d design down onto 2d, on paper. I didnt draw my design as an actual garment but spent the day drawing it in different ways and styles just to see what it looked like as an illustration:
I also did a couple of collages to see what my design would look like in this style too:
I really loved the fashion week as this is what i have always loved doing and i definitely know i want to do this as my specialist subject.
